The Art of Space Planning 10:30 AM Session: WD2 Basic/Intermediate This session will teach you the essential tools of space planning by examining the existing area. Learn how to start with a design concept and create a canvas for a special event space that exceeds the client’s goals and overall expectations. Whether blending space into the theme or concept, or creating space on an open pallet, there are many important factors to consider when choosing an indoor or outdoor venue including traffic and safety. When creating the general design concept for a special event it is essential to consider several areas, which impact the success of the client’s event. The consideration of the existing areas of the venue can help initiate the overall design plan. Attention to levels and unusual architectural features, such as balconies patios, gathering alcoves etc., can prove to be helpful in the concept development of a thematic direction. The design of tented spaces can also be an extension of a venue or become a completely independent event area blending into the exterior environment.
